Paediatric MSK Assessments

If your child is experiencing foot, ankle or leg pain, our experienced podiatrists are here to help. At Abbeyhill Footcare, we assess how your child moves, identify the cause of their symptoms and provide personalised treatment to help them stay active and pain-free.

Paediatric MSK

Children's feet and legs go through many changes as they grow. While some aches and pains are a normal part of development, ongoing pain, limping or difficulty taking part in everyday activities shouldn't be ignored.

At Abbeyhill Footcare, we provide comprehensive musculoskeletal (MSK) assessments for children to identify the cause of their symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Our aim is to help your child move comfortably, stay active and support healthy development.

What can we help with?

We assess and treat a wide range of foot and lower limb problems, including:

  • Heel pain (Sever's disease)
  • Flat feet
  • Toe walking
  • In-toeing or out-toeing
  • Growing pains
  • Foot or ankle pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Walking or running concerns
  • Knee pain related to foot mechanics

What happens during the assessment?

Every child is different, so treatment is tailored to their individual needs.

Depending on the assessment, treatment may include:

  • Advice for parents and carers
  • Strengthening and stretching exercises
  • Footwear recommendations
  • Orthotics, where appropriate
  • Activity advice
  • Referral for further investigations if needed

Our goal is to reduce pain, improve movement and help your child enjoy everyday activities with confidence.

How Abbeyhill Footcare Can Help

At Abbeyhill Footcare, we're here to help you get back on your feet.

After assessing your symptoms, we'll explain what's causing your Achilles pain and recommend the most suitable treatment for you.

Depending on your symptoms, your treatment may include:

  • Personalised rehabilitation exercises
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Footwear advice
  • Orthotics, if needed
  • Activity and training advice
  • A diagnostic ultrasound referral, if we need more information about your tendon.

We'll support you throughout your recovery, helping you reduce pain, improve movement and lower the risk of the problem coming back.

When should my child see a podiatrist?

It's worth booking an appointment if your child:

  • Complains of foot, ankle or leg pain
  • Is limping
  • Avoids walking, running or sport
  • Trips or falls more than expected
  • Has changes in the way they walk
  • Has symptoms that aren't improving

Early assessment can often help identify problems before they become more serious.

FAQs

At what age can my child see a podiatrist?

Children of all ages can benefit from a podiatry assessment if they're experiencing foot, ankle or lower limb problems.

Are growing pains normal?

Growing pains are common, but ongoing pain, limping or pain that affects your child's daily activities should always be assessed.

Does my child need orthotics?

Not every child does. If orthotics would help improve comfort or support the way your child moves, we'll discuss this with you during the appointment.

What should my child wear to their appointment?

Comfortable clothing and the shoes they wear most often are ideal. If they use sports shoes for activities, it's helpful to bring those too.

Will my child need a scan?

Most children can be assessed without imaging. If further investigation is needed, we'll explain why and discuss the next steps.

How long does the appointment take?

Your appointment allows plenty of time to assess your child's symptoms, explain our findings and discuss the most suitable treatment plan.
